Reason #3492 Why I Strongly Dislike Mondays

Now that I'm not working, I can't really complain about Monday's, or any day really. I stay home everyday and don't really have a big schedule difference from week to weekend.

The last 3 Mondays (today included) have been the start of a new week in my running program. I hae never really enjoyed running but now I like it. It makes me tired and feel good, but also keeps me happy. In the words of Reese Witherspoon Elle Woods "Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy." That statement is totally true...until today.

On Saturday evening I went to the gym and my foot started to bother me. It was bad, it was tolerable. The corpsman in me asked how bad it was on a scale of 1-10. It was maybe a 2-3. It was on the back portion of my arch on my left foot. Well, I worked through it (go me!) and dealt with it all day yesterday. Today felt the same so I went ahead, put on my running shoes and started Week 3 of my running program.

BAD IDEA! I lasted about 10 minutes before the pain just became awful. I had to stop running and just walked. I finished out my 20 minutes, quickly grabbed CJ and hobbled out to my car. I wish I could just cut off my foot right now. It really hurts :(

So now, I have my first running injury as a civilian. I had my fair share while in the Navy (shin splints, stress fractures...all that fun stuff). I am contemplating if my body is ready for running. I have a couple days to think about it. If not, it's back to the elliptical I go.

In more exciting news...I left CJ with my dad for about 1 1/2 hours on Saturday evening so I could go to the gym. When I got home, CJ came running to the door screaming "MOMMY!". He knocked me over with a huge hug and said "I missed my mommy very much". I love being a mom...

Wednesday...

...just in case you didn't know what day of the week it was, I thought I would drop a hint for you in my title! For those of you on the east coast and further, it's already Thursday for you :)

So I'm running out of baby sitting passes at the gym so I've been trying to go as little as possible or make alternate arrangements. I didn't go to the gym yesterday but I did go today. At the beginning I felt a little more tired than usual. I couldn't tell if it was because I was in a bad mood or if it was because I had been fighting tummy yuckies since the middle of the night. Well, I made it to minute 18 of 20 and I thought "You can keep going. Keep running...only two more minutes." Did I keep going? No, I didn't because I'm a weenie.

Yes, I said it. I'm a weenie. I don't want to over do it. I pronate when I walk and run. I wear special inserts and buy certain types of shoes and because of this lovely discovery that Doc Saari made in 2005ish I have found the reason of why my knees hurt when I work out. Also, it explains the shin splints that I get from going too fast in a workout program. The Navy jacked my legs up...or it was because of the rigourous training I found out my legs were jacked up. That's what the Navy would say LOL

Anyway, nothing real new to report. Just hanging out at home as always.

Oh, if you're not a friend of my on Facebook, you didn't get to read my status update: To my group members in my Government class: Get your act together, this is a big project and if I don't get an A in this class I will be very very upset! Grammar/spelling is important and so is getting your work in on time!

That is the evening I am having. I hate dislike online schools that require group work...especially when some of your group members don't know up from down.

Have a great night! Happy almost Thursday!

Day 4 of 23

There are only 23 workout days in the 6 week program I am following. I'm kicking it's butt! Go me! Day 4 was supposed to happen tomorrow but I had free babysitting tonight so I said "it's almost tomorrow" and decided to workout. Can I just say I kicked the gyms butt? Usually it's the other way around...I'm sure I'll feel it in my butt tomorrow! LOL Okay, enough about butts :)

I'm getting more and more motivated as each day progresses. I need to be eating better. I'm meeting my calories just not in the healthiest of ways. I've been reading a lot about green smoothies. Next time I go grocery shopping I will be buying ingredients to make some. Also, I have this cookbook called Deceptively Delicious. It's written by Jerry Seinfeld's wife. It talks about disguising healthy foods into foods kids like. Well, I'm a picky eater so I'll be trying those too!

There's rest??

Go figure that on a running program there'd be rest days! How exciting! I'm still pretty excited about going to the gym so I still went today. I just did a brisk walk for 40ish minutes. It feels nice to know that I actually want to go to the gym and not "have to".

Note for next time: Don't go after lunch. Although I didn't eat a horrible lunch I still felt like I was sluggish. I'm going to go after breakfast or after a lighter lunch of maybe some fruit or other full of energy foods!

Ode to my Nike Plus

So for quite awhile now (18 months-ish) I've been keeping my iPod adapter for my Nike Plus locked up. It was in such a pretty box! Anyway, I broke it out this weekend!

It is seriously the coolest toy! Inside my shoe sits the counter and then I plug the connector into my iPod and it records it! I can then go the website and download it. It keeps track of it all! Oh, and it gets even better!

I'm an awful runner. I mean, I run down my cul-de-sac and I'm dying. Well, they have running programs. They have programs for wimpy runners like me all the way up to training for a marathon! The program I chose is going from 0 to running a steady 5k. It's a six week program. It has cardio 3-4 times a week. I'm very excited!!

Today is day one for me! The work out is 20 minutes long. Walk for 1 minute then Run for 1 minute and continue to alternate for 20 minutes. I usually do at least 40 min on the treadmill (walking at 3.5 and incline between 3.0 and 3.5) so I'll start with this cardio work out then finish up my walk!

Go me! I'm so excited. If you want to join, or know someone that wants to join, send them my way! I'd love a workout buddy-even if it is virtual!

God bless!
